His interest in eastern Tennessee, the Smoky Mountains and the outdoors is what initially interested Dr. Carusone in our practice. But it was his passion for pediatrics, vision therapy, and rehabilitation that made him choose Knoxville as his home. Dr. Carusone has had additional externship training in binocular vision, sports vision training as well as traumatic brain injury management and is excited to share his knowledge with his patients and our staff.
Growing up in northeast Ohio, Dr. Carusone completed his undergraduate studies in Biology at Kent State University. He then made the nearly 800-mile move to Memphis, Tennessee where he completed his Optometry training at Southern College of Optometry (SCO). Dr. Carusone spent much of his four years in Memphis staying involved with local and national optometry associations including Optometry Cares, the Optometric Private Practice Club and the Lions Club. He is a current member of the American Optometric Association, the Tennessee Association of Optometric Physicians, and the Colleges of Optometrists in Vision Development.
Dr. Carusone likes to spend much of his free time remaining active. Whether it’s working on his jump shot, golf swing, tennis form, or weight training, he loves staying on the move. When he’s looking for something calmer, he enjoys relaxing on his patio or exploring local parks with his newly wedded wife Mallory (an educator) and their dog Ellie.
In order to stay plugged into the local community and get to know the Knoxville area, you can find Dr. Carusone and Mallory out to dinner at local restaurants or exploring downtown. They both are huge “foodies” and enjoy finding new places to eat and enjoy what Knoxville has to offer. While beginning to lay down roots in the area, he and his wife enjoy traveling back to Ohio and North Carolina where their families are located. When timing allows they also enjoy going to Hilton Head Island, the place where they said their vows.
