General Optometry

We all have 5 senses. Touch, taste, smell, sound and sight. Of our 5 senses, sight is the dominant sense and we take in the most information, understand and explore our world most through our sight, or vision. It’s no wonder that since the beginning, people have been doing whatever they can to see better, and a little over 750 years ago, Optometry, the science of correcting vision, was born.

Since the beginning of optometry...

There have been endless discoveries and advancements, and what we have discovered and learned about the eyes over the last several hundred years has been amazing. Our doctors may not have been around in 1263 when Optometry began but, have years of experience, and together with our staff, are proud to carry on this profession and continue to help people every day.

As a society, we have come a long way from being cavemen hitting people over the head with a club, and we now have better options for a horse with a broken leg than to just shoot it. In the same way, the field of Optometry has come a long way, and gone through much change and innovation. Drs. Rhyne, Patton & Gilliland have not only kept up with the profession as it progresses, but have thrived as the art and science of vision correction continues to innovate.

We are proud to be able to service all your vision needs. From a child having their first eye exam to someone dealing with a serious eye condition causing loss of vision, and everything in between, we can help. We carry all the latest products and devices and have what seems like an endless selection to choose from. Sometimes it is difficult to decide on your perfect brand or style of glasses, or navigate the 100 different ways we can make your lenses, but our knowledgeable staff is here to help. As far as the best glasses prescription or the perfect shape and brand of contacts, we carry all the top brands, and our doctors are experts at prescribing the exact one that you need.

Some of the things we do most often are:

  • Annual eye exams
  • Ocular diseases
  • Dry-eye syndrome
  • Post-operative care
  • Binocular dysfunction
  • Vision Therapy
  • Low Vision Rehab
  • Low Vision devices
  • Glasses and contacts
  • Diabetic eye exams

In the world of eye care today, there are optometrists, ophthalmologists, and eye disease specialists. Drs. Rhyne, Patton & Gilliland are optometrists and deal with many things including refractive error (prescribing glasses and contacts) and the diagnosis and treatment of eye conditions and diseases. In the case that you need eye surgery or your condition requires a specialist, we have great relationships with excellent ophthalmologists and specialists, and can help you know where to go and what to do and what to expect. When it involves the eyes, our doctors and staff are ready to help and serve you.
